Munich-based web company Experteer targets executive jobs earning at least $100,000 and assists its clients both online and offline.

Founded in Munich, Germany in 2005, Experteer first offered its services in Germany, Austria and Switzerland before extending to other European countries. It now operates in 9 countries, and its US presence was launched in 2008. The company headquarters remain in Munich.

Experteer differentiates itself from other online job search engines by the level, quality and services it offers to its paying clients.

Experteer's Target Audience

The company targets career seekers qualified for high-level specialist, management and executive positions that pay at least $100K per year (or at least 60,000 Euros in the European market). Most jobs require a minimum of 5 to 7 years' previous professional experience. The company's website states it has over 1.1 million members.

The bulk of the jobs are in the consulting, financial and IT sectors, but job listings reach across a broad range of industries, including the public sector.

Experteer's Online Job Search Engine

The first, and most traditional, option for Experteer members are the online job listings. Jobs are hand-selected for their quality and posted by a team of researchers at Experteer – something the company claims similar web-based job search sites (such as Monster and CareerBuilder) do not do.

In addition, some jobs are posted by the company's network of headhunters and are exclusive to Experteer. Experteer's US site currently lists about 20,000 active jobs. Although the company's websites are country-specific, clients may view and apply for jobs in all 9 countries of the Experteer system.

Headhunter Assistance Through Experteer

A unique feature of the Experteer model is its network of headhunters who assist job seekers in finding the right position. The company boasts relationships with 5,000 headhunters worldwide, including large executive-search firms like Korn/Ferry International.

Experteer clients create the profile they want headhunters to see (i.e., target industry, expertise, experience, salary benchmark) and headhunters, in turn, contact clients when they fit the profile of open positions.

Experteer offers headhunters the capability to search precisely for professionals with specific expertise and experience. The company stresses the discreet and confidential nature of its headhunter service.

Sign-Up Options and Membership Fees

Job seekers may sign-up for a free Basic Membership or a paid Premium Membership.

With a Basic Membership, clients may develop a profile and view job listings of interest to them. Listings are limited, however, to job title, industry (but not the specific organization), and salary range. Headhunters see profiles and can contact members, but headhunter-originated jobs are not available to view with the Basic Membership.

Premium Memberships are available for 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. A one-month membership costs $29.99 and a yearly membership costs $179.40 (or $14.95 per month). This membership allows clients to view all jobs in their entirety and access to the headhunter network.

Experteer has grown by leaps and bounds in the four years since its inception, despite the lagging economy. This is partly due to its global nature; the European jobs market has remained stronger as the US has dipped, keeping its total number of listings high. And Experteer continues to expand – it launched a Spain site in October 2009 – offering proof that its unique combination of job listings and headhunter assistance for top-level job seekers is a successful model.
