Finding an on-site job can be stressful enough while competing with other qualified applicants, but looking for a legitimate work at home job can a challenge in itself.

How many people have been fooled with the common line in advertisements stating that five hundred dollars can be made in just an hour of work? Most likely, a lot of people have fallen for this line and have fell victim to a scam or site that says that a membership or monthly fee is required first.

Understand the Time Consumption

When finding a work at home job, always consider the amount of time that can be spent on that job. Don't take on a job that will interfere with the time to get other things done. If working part time is easier to work around, find a job that has flexible part time hours that are not set at a certain schedule. If full time work is chosen, understand that working a forty hour week may be a requirement set by the company.

Considering whether part/full time work fits into one's schedule can determine how much free time will be available to do other things. Remember that not only is time being invested in the company, but the company is also investing their time as well and want to make sure they pick a candidate that can complete the job based on the requirements.

Researching the Legitimacy of a Company

When searching for a work at home job, always do research about the reputation of the companies. Look at other websites to find out the credibility of the companies and many other businesses that may be associated with them. Calling other businesses and asking them about the company is a good way to find out if the company is worth putting time and effort into becoming a part of. Visiting websites such as the Better Business Bureau or the Federal Trade Commission in obtaining more information about what jobs are legitimate and which ones have a report that describes their credibility.

Try to find a company website, email address and phone number and speak with someone about the job requirements. Jobs that state that thousands of dollars can be made each day/week with little to no experience in that field are often times not legitimate. Some jobs may state that there are no fees and all that’s needed is just for one to register with the website to gain free access to it.

What the job advertisement does not say on the main page can be misleading in itself. When a job seeker clicks on the register button, he/she is directed to the next page that describes what the company and/or job is about. After reading all the information about the company, scroll down to find out if there is actually a fee that needs to be paid before the job can be started.

Reading the Job Qualifications, Private Policy Statement and Terms & Conditions of a Job

While applying for multiple jobs is a way to get one's resume out to employers quickly, reading all the job requirements is just as important. Some job descriptions are longer than others and may take a couple more minutes to read, but it's worth it to make sure one's qualifications meet the companies requirements.

Reading the private policy statement is a good way to make sure one's privacy is secure when personal information is needed to fill out the applications. Reading the terms and conditions statement thoroughly before applying to a job is a good way of understanding what is acceptable or unacceptable for that particular job. Look at every link the website offers so that one has an understanding of the company overall.

Understanding the basic do's and don'ts when looking for a work at home job can mean the difference between being scammed out of money versus being aware of what signs to look for and choosing a job the smart way.
